Ramblin' Dan's 3-Dimensional Scale Model Parts
Welcome! This is a blog for a posting ideas and examples of a practical application for three dimensional printing of plastic model items. No rules for blog content and direction. It's an Idea at this point.
I have been struggling to find a real and satisfying product, made from plastic, where this new additive manufacturing (printing) process of can show it's value.
I built dozens if not tens of dozens of plastic model kits in my youth. Cars, ships, airplanes were all assembled from kits. As I got older and and fascinated by the model train hobby, I built a lot of plastic components for that hobby including structures, buildings, and rail cars.
What was missing was building from scratch. The kits were just something a person assembled to a plan. Of course there was a lot of Kit-bashing which was making modifications from the standard kit or swapping parts from other kits. Some model kits started to include "custom" parts so the builder could have some variation from standard.
Today I have seen some people making custom plastic parts (custom wheels) using 3D printing for customizing the high end plastic model kits (like exotic cars) available today.
My plan is to explore this scale model venue using the ability to custom make any plastic model part and full models from the drawing to the finished item.
If you wish to just watch that's fine. Or join in, I will make that possible.
For now let's see where this idea is headed. ~ Dan
